Y’all if someone told you direct sales was an easy way to make money, they straight up lied to you. We hate to be the ones to tell you, but if you want to make a go of your business you need to hear it. Here’s the thing, we’re telling you this because we care.
If it was easy, everyone would be doing it. It’s not easy, but you can do it. Even if you are overwhelmed and unsure right now, you can do it!
Direct sales is not the magic potion for getting rich quick. It’s just not. You might have some quick success when you first start, but if you don’t put the work in the success isn’t going to last. It is going to take some work on your part to make your business the income producing gig you want it to be.
Even though it’s not instantly easy, you can set yourself up for your business to run easily. But you have to put in the work upfront, and the truth is you won’t be able to “set it and forget it”. You’re always going to have to work your business to some extent.
Direct Sales Business

Establishing a value for your time is going to give you perspective on everything else you do moving forward for direct sales business, and will allow you to prioritize what you’re working on.
Now let’s look at the tasks associated with running your business. We need to create systems that are highly repeatable for the recurring tasks you have. Start with making a list of the tasks you find yourself completing over and over again.
Let’s break this down into a real life example, so we can make better sense of it. We’ll use running online parties as our example.
Let’s say that the steps you have for any online party are:
- Finding a hostess
- Creating the party
- Coaching your hostess
- Running the party
There’s no getting around the fact that some of those steps require your full attention. Finding a hostess isn’t really something that can be outsourced and you’re going to have to work at it. At least until you set yourself apart from other consultants and people start coming to you.
Running the party is also going to require your full attention. You are the only you, and you need to be there!
So what about creating the party? Do you need to start from scratch every time someone books with you? Absolutely not! Do you need to invest the time upfront to put together a script that you can use at every party? Yes, yes you do.
Now take the task of creating your party and put a value on it. How many hours would it take you to put together a party you would be happy with? Multiply that number by the value you gave to your time, and you know what that task is worth to your business. For example, if you think it will take you 10 hours to put together your direct sales business and you time is worth $25/hr then your script is worth $250 to your business.
Does it seem expensive? It might, but don’t forget to take into consideration that your program will be highly repeatable. You will be able to use the same party for many, many hostesses. And because you put the time into making an awesome party, you will stand out from other direct sellers and people will begin to want to book with you over someone else.
Once you have your party script(s), running parties moving forward is easy. All you have to do is tweak the posts for your new hostess, and possibly schedule them into your party platform.

Remember what value you gave your time. By putting a program in place that you can use over and over, you will eventually save yourself many hours that you can now quantify.
No matter what tasks you decide to develop programs for, it’s going to take time upfront to make it happen. It’s probably not going to be easy either. That’s why everyone isn’t doing it! That’s why only some consultants have the success most others dream of.

You may also discover that the cost of your time to complete the task far exceeds the amount you would pay to buy the same thing, and again it makes more sense to buy it.
Spend the time setting yourself up for success. That, my friends, is what makes direct sales easy, and why everyone should be doing it.
